What is the proper putting stroke? It’s very simple. Here’s what you do.
Place both hands out in front of you with your palms facing towards the ground.
Now, turn your hands over. Touch your pinkie fingers together.
Lower your arms towards the ground as if you’re in a putting stance.
Now, while your pinkie fingers are still touching, move your arms and hands back and forth. You should feel some kind of resistance in your movement from left to right.
Repeat that pattern several times. If you’re moving more than 10 inches in either direction (Left or Right) you’ve gone too far. During this movement, you should also notice that you’re not raising up or down. This allows for your putter to stay close to the ground during your entire swing. Once you’re comfortable with that movement, grab a putter and try to mimic that same pattern. Using a mirror to watch yourself might help in attaching pattern to movement too. Good luck. Keep practicing.
